This is in response to Steve Kamb (of Nerdfitness.com)’s statement that everytime I say “I should” do such and such, I have to drop and give him 10 push-ups.
Well, I went ahead and did some push-ups before I wrote the title of this post. And I’m glad I did. I’ve been telling myself, “I should really get back to my exercise routine” and then countering with petty excuses that wouldn’t stand up to anyone around me’s scrutiny if they were actually voiced.
I did 36 pushups in one go. Then after a couple minutes, I did 20 more. Now I feel great! The muscle work released a bunch of endorphines, so I mean that I feel great on both a physical and emotional level. I overcame my inner voice, or “resistance” as Steven Pressfield calls it in his book, The War of Art.
It was only 56 pushups, but it WAS 56 pushups! At lunch time no less.
I’m going to do more than 56 air squats when I get home tonight.
You can hold me to that.
